“Be the Church” is the theme for this year’s Spring Meeting.  Our guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Marsha Williams, Associate Conference Ministry for Clergy and Authorized Ministry Concerns in the New York Conference.  Our host pastor will be Rev. Troy DeCohen.

To “Be the Church” we should:
  • Protect the environment.
  • Care for the poor.
  • Forgive often.
  • Reject racism.
  • Fight for the powerless.
  • Share earthly and spiritual resources.
  • Embrace diversity.
  • Love God.
  • Enjoy this life.

11:30 AM – Business Meeting with election of members of the Metro Board and Standing Committees

Boundary Awareness Training

Regular Boundary Awareness Training (BAT) begins at 9 AM and runs to 4:00 PM, with registration and continental breakfast at 8:30 AM.

Clergy Renewal BAT runs from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM.

This training is open to clergy and church lay leaders.  Clergy due or past due for training and renewal are required to attend and participate in this session.

Assignments will be e-mailed upon receipt of Registration Fees; assignments are due on the day of training.

Registration Fees for Regular BAT are:  $80 if received by April 4, 2016; $90 if received after April 4; $100 if paid at the door.

Registration Fees for Clergy Renewal BAT are:  $60 if received by April 4, 2016; $70 if received after April 4; $80 if paid at the door.

NY Women of the UCC 2016 Annual Conference

Here is the registration form due on or before Monday, March 28, 2016.

Our theme is from Ephesians 2:10 – “God Made Us What We Are”.  Daily sub-themes:

  • Thursday – God Calls Us
  • Friday – God Changes Us
  • Saturday – God Uses Us

Keynote speaker and preacher is Rev. Marraine Kettell, NY Conference Coordinator of Local Church Ministries and Pastor of First Congregational Corning UCC.

Sacred Conversation on Race will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Marsha Williams – Associate Conference Minister for Clergy and Authorized Ministry Concerns for the NY Conference.

Bible studies will be conducted by Rev. Jan Mahle.

Worship leaders are:

  • Opening Worship – Thursday evening, April 28 – Pastor Susan Fast
  • Healing Service – Friday evening, April 29 – Rev. Brenda McCutcheon
  • Closing Worship – Saturday morning, April 30 – Joanne Nugent-Ward

Workshops will be:

  • The Joy of Photography – Bonnie Connolly
  • The Green Bible – Pastor Susan Fast
  • A Time for Every Matter Under Heaven (Loss, Transition, Change) – Pastor Joanne Lanfear
  • Starting Homeless Ministries in Your Church – Kimberly Everett

Our choir director will be Rev. Dr. Ann Van Cleef; our pianist/accompanist will be Ms. Janet Herman.

Basic costs, as covered in the Registration Form, vary based on your choice of housing and meals - from $159 to $221.

In addition to this annual conference, UCC NY Women work throughout the year on mission projects which include making baby slings for women in Honduras, collecting items for Church World Service Health Kits and making prayer shawls for Creedmoor Psychiatric Department and Rensselaer Hospice.  They also contribute to Pennies for People.

From Membership 2 Discipleship Workshop

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Differentiate Discipleship from Christian Education
  • Identify catalysts and build relationships that lead to spiritual growth
  • Build an intentional Discipleship Process for personal and congregational transformation

Workshop facilitator is Dr. Phil Maynard, author of the book Shift:  Helping Congregations Back into the Game of Effective Ministry.

Cost for individuals is $25.  Cost for churches with five or more attendees is $100.

These costs include lunch, a workbook for each participant, and a complimentary copy of Phil Maynard’s book Membership to Discipleship:  Growing Maturing Disciples Who Make Disciples.
