Rev. Dr. Patrick G. Duggan, Host Pastor

(Executive Administrator Louise Manigault provided this summary on November 13.  Photos and minutes of the meeting are linked below.)

We thank Rev. Dr. Patrick G. Duggan and the members of the Congregational Church of South Hempstead, who graciously served as host to the Metro Association.

It was a spirit-filled and uplifting experience for everyone.

We thank Rev. Dr. Gary Percesepe, Pastor, Church in the Highlands, White Plains, for bringing a powerful message as the preacher for the worship service. Thanks to all of the clergy and lay leaders who participated in the Worship Service. Powerful prayers were lifted up and lives were touched by the anointing. The music and the choir, under the leadership of Mr. Elmer L. Hammond, Jr., filled our hearts with praise to God.

The Business Meeting Agenda was long, but we managed to get through it under the capable and professional leadership of our Metro Board President, Rev. Reginald Brantley and our Moderator, Rev. Dr. Bruce Rivera.

We are thrilled and thankful to God as we welcome a new congregation to the Association: Abundant Life Church of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY. There were five members, including the pastor, present for the reception led by Rev. Freeman L. Palmer, Associate Conference Minister for Congregational Development. We thank him and the members of Congregational Development, co-chaired by Rev. Dr. William Nye and Rev. Susan Switzer, who worked with and guided the congregation to this momentous occasion in the life of the church and the Association. You will hear more about our new congregation and their outreach to the community in the coming weeks.

Two new members were elected to the Nominating Committee: Rev. Eli Wilson, III and Ms. Deborah Dee Brayton.  The Nominating Committee has begun its work early for the Spring Nominations and Elections. Thanks to those who filled out the Nominating forms at the meeting. You will be contacted, along with others, regarding openings on the Metro Board and the Standing Committees. We need your time and talents as we move forward with the work of the Association.

We did not have enough time for  the church discussion portion, but we will arrange a future date for a special workshop to cover and share your church experiences and new ideas for meaningful worship and discipleship in the 21st Century.

The 2018 Proposed Budget passed. Certain sections of the Revised By-laws were discussed and approved. More information is needed for some areas, and a new draft will be available for review by March 1, 2018 in order to prepare for a possible vote in the Spring.

Invitation of April 7, 2018 Celebration

Invitation of April 7, 2018 Celebration

Board Member, Mr. Reginald Mason, presented the information for a Special Luncheon to honor clergy of 25 years or more on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at  the Chateau Briand Catering Hall, in Carle Place, near Garden City, NY. This major event will raise funds to add to the scholarship fund for our young people as they seek higher education each year. Watch for a special mailing to clergy and churches regarding tickets and journal advertising information. We need all hands involved.

Finally, when you received your Meeting Booklet, you noticed the new UCC Logo on the cover.  Attached is the information from the 2017 General Synod about the new logo and its meaning. Please be sure to read about it.  You may, also, still retain and use the original logo that reflects "That They May All Be One."

Once again, thanks to all who came, participated and shared in the Fellowship of the Association on Saturday. It was a great day!

God bless you always.
Louise M.

Here are minutes of the Business Meeting.

And here are faces of some of those participating in the November 11 gathering.
